The development has the capacity to provide: • Approximately 1,100 new homes. Current Council policy is that 31% of these should be provided as affordable homes for local people. • Parks and open spaces. • Education provisions. • A new Neighbourhood Centre that could include local shops, community centre and medical facilities. • Children's Play Areas. • Facilities to support the development of a sustainable community. • A Low Carbon development utilising energy saving construction techniques and renewable energy technology. • A safe and inclusive community. • A mixture of housing, including affordable housing, from first time buyers to family homes. • A continuing Care Retirement Community with associated support services. • Improved transport, cycling and pedestrian links. • Enhanced biodiversity. • Potential new sports facilities depending on demand. • Potential for new bus routes and enhanced bus services.
The Planning Application Since the first public consultation in September, we have listened to your comments and taken them on board. We have developed the masterplan to show some more detail. We have also indicated where a proposed new neighbourhood centre, a Continuing Care Retirement Community and a hotel could be located. Our proposal will be submitted to SKDC as an Outline Planning Application. It will not be a fully designed scheme, but it is intended to establish the purpose of the development. We will support the application with a comprehensive set of documents setting out guidelines for: • The character and architectural style of new buildings • How we implement enhancement of the ecology and nature conservation • Development of sustainable construction and energy efficiency • Integration of new traffic and transport initiatives We have already started field work in preparations for the planning application. | ||||||
